In CEBIMAT, we are equipped to conduct advanced scientific studies aimed at uncovering the underlying mechanisms of the natural biodegradation process from both a materials and microbiological perspective.

Evaluation of biodegradation kinetics. Analysis of the rate at which biodegradation takes place, identifying the different steps of the process and the critical aspects governing them.

Study of the microbiological aspects on biodegradation. We can conduct a microbiological study of the biodegradation process. This process may comprise the identification of the microorganisms involved in the process.

Tracking of physicochemical changes undergone by the material during biodegradation. The variation in the mechanical properties, morphology, crystallinity or molecular weight during the biodegradation process can be studied.

Tailor-made studies. We can design a particular study to be able to really analyse the biodegradation of a particular material in a particular environment. For so, specific inocula can be obtained and the environmental conditions controlled to really emulate a concrete location.

Marine biodegradation

At CEBIMAT we are very aware of the harmful effect that plastic materials can have on our seas and oceans. That is why part of our efforts are focused on this ecosystem.

Our state-of-the-art underwater facility located in a Mediterranean coastal natural park allows us to conduct real-world research on the biodegradation of materials in the sea. With this unique advantage, we can carry out innovative and effective studies to assess the biodegradation of materials in the sea.
